What to Expect

The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is a valuable opportunity for you, as a parent, to meet with county and district staff to discuss any concerns you may have. This is a chance to gain the knowledge you need to support your students' success and to build relationships with these staff members. The PAC meeting is a neutral space for you to gather additional information.

Please note that it is not the same as an Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting.

January Parent Advisory Committee Focus

Understanding Your Child’s IEP: Services & Accommodations

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is more than a document — it is the roadmap for how your child is supported at school. This month’s Parent Advisory Committee meeting will focus specifically on IEP services and accommodations, and how to understand what they really mean for your child day-to-day.

Many families are told what is in the IEP, but not always why certain supports are included, how they should be used, or whether they are truly meeting their child’s needs. This meeting is designed to help bridge that gap.

What we’ll talk about:

What is the difference between services and accommodations

  • How services are supposed to be delivered and monitored

  • How accommodations should actually look in the classroom

  • Common areas where IEPs are unclear or under-support students

  • How to ask informed questions when something does not feel right

You do not need to be an expert or have everything figured out. This is a supportive space to learn, listen, and better understand how your child’s IEP is meant to work — and how to make sure it is working for your child.

You are welcome to bring a copy of your child’s current IEP or attend just to learn and listen. A virtual option is also available.

Why attend?

Understanding your child’s IEP gives you clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. When parents understand services and accommodations, they are better equipped to partner with schools and advocate effectively — without conflict or overwhelm.
